Reference - Operating SpeakOn:
The numerical keypad is recommended as the most natural way for the user to interact with SpeakOn.
As mentioned in the page 'Keyboard operation and notation' in the 'Introduction' section, the keys required to operate SpeakOn can be divided into two groups: Main keys which are keys with the same functionality regardless of where the user is in the system; and Context
keys which are used in controls and menus and the function of which may differ between control types.
Keys may have additional functionalities which are represented by the symbols '*' or '#' before the key name.
Operation of a key with the '*' prefix
This functionality is achieved by holding down the '0' key. The operation of a key with the '*' prefix is illustrated by the following example:
* 'Select' (0 + 5)
This means that to use the * 'Select' key, hold down the '0' key and press the '5' key.
Note - the 'Long' keys on the numerical keypad are also used to represent keys not found on the numerical keypad when the numlock key is active. For example, the notation: 'Home' (8 long) key
This means that you hold the 8 key on the numerical keypad for one second.
Operation of a key with the '#' prefix
This functionality is achieved by a 'long' keystroke meaning that a key is held down for more than one second. The operation of a key with the prefix '#' symbol is illustrated by the following example:
# 'Select' (5 long)
This means that to use the additional # 'Select' key, hold down the 5 key for more than one second.
Note - only a few '#' keys are used on the numerical keypad and these are marked clearly in this manual.

(1) (2) (3)
At the top right corner is the 'Main' key.
At the top left corner is the 'Help' key.
At the bottom left corner is the 'Task' key.
At the bottom right corner is the 'Focus' key.
At the centre is the 'Select' key.
Above the centre is the 'Up' key.
Below the centre is the 'Down' key.
Left of the centre is the 'Left' key.
Right of the centre is the 'Right' key.
The location of the 'Info' key is usually below right of the square.
The location of the 'Cancel' (0) key may vary between numerical keypads and may be located below left or below centre of the square.
The location of the speech and audio keys is usually above and to the right of the square respectively and may vary slightly between numerical keypads.
