CD - Audio, MP3 and DAISY

The CD media direcctory enables you to listen to Audio, MP3 and DAISY format books. The The first two types of media are self explanatory, the information below refers to DAISY books. There are no sub-directories in this directory; there is only one DAISY book available - the one in the root of your CD drive.

Note: This is not a complete implementation of the DAISY standard but rather a practical implementation of the Audio DAISY 2.02 format such as the one used by the RNIB, TNAUK and others. Multiple DAISY books on one CD are supported but DAISY books which span more than one CD are not supported yet. Some DAISY books, mainly distributed in North America, are protected by DRM; DRM is not supported by SpeakOn.

Settings

DAISY books are detected if a DAISY CD is inserted in one of the CD drives of your computer. This is the default behaviour which will suit most users. In some situations, you may like SpeakOn to look somewhere else in your computer folder structure for DAISY books. To enable this you will need to edit a simple configuration file. To change this setting, do the following:

Using a text editor, open the file (assuming you installed SpeakOn on the 'C' drive)

C:\SpeakOn\app\Media_Centre\CD\config\config.txt

You will find in this file a settings entry as follows:

directory=none

This entry tells SpeakOn to detect automatically a CD drive on your computer which contains a DAISY book in its root folder. Modify the directory value to the path of your DAISY book folder; for example, if your book is in your drive 'E' and is located in a folder called 'my_books' the new entry will be:

directory=E:/my_books

Note that only forward slashes '/' are allowed in SpeakOn's configuration files.

Save the file.
