Reference - SpeakOn media tasks - Additional information:VI services:

Radio

The main provision in SpeakOn for listening to radio is using the Radio Time task; the Radio media directory in the VI Radio task is provided only for radio stations available for the blind community.

The sub-directories of the Radio media directory are:

a. Stations - Available radio stations (derived offline from the SHOUTcast website).

It contains sub-directories for all types of music.

b. Favourites – Your favourite stations.

Audio formats supported

The following playlist file extensions are supported:

'.m3u', '.pls', '.wpl' (for a single entry only), '.asx' redirect file.

The following streaming standard are supported:

'SHOUTcast', 'Icecast', Windows and Real streaming

Settings

Using a text editor, open the file (assuming you installed SpeakOn on the 'C' drive)

C:\SpeakOn\app\VI_Services\Radio\config\config.txt

The following setting is not required unless you want to use a different directory.

Change your Favourites directory set by default to:

favourites.directory=${user.content.dir}/Radio/Favourites

Change the directory path to your Favourites directory.

Save the file.

Important - Listening to media in Real format

To play Real format radio streams SpeakOn requires an external program that supports this format. The official program you can use is RealPlayer from Real; however it is difficult to use and pops up lots of confusing messages. You get it from:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/audiohelp_install.shtml

We recommend Real Alternative from Edskes which is free and is much easier to use. You can get it from:
