Tutorial:The Manager:
The Manager, which is running all the time, acts as a 'launch pad' to start SpeakOn's media tasks.
When the Manager opens, the focus is placed in the Available Media list control which is the only control in this task. You are presented with a list of all available media tasks in SpeakOn.
Media tasks enable you to listen to a variety of media. The following media tasks are available:
Mainstream :
CD - Play CD audio music, DAISY and other audio books in a veriety of formats.
Music - Play music stored on your computer.
Podcast - Stream directly literally thousands of podcast files available through subject directories on the internet. Download and play podcast files.
Books - listen to DAISY and other audio and text based books stored on your computer in a veriety of formats.
Radio Time - Listen to internet radio. You have the choice of over 100,000 stations and shows from the vast RadioTime database; you can browse, search and preset stations.
Last FM - Listen to your favourite music using the Last FM internet service and interact with the Last FM server to create a personal portfolio of the music you enjoy. (You must be a subscriber to Last.FM which is available for a modest monthly fee).
VI community services :
VI Podcast - Stream directly podcasts available for the VI community including ACB Main Menu, Blind Cool Tech, Infosound etc.
VI Radio - Listen to VI community internet radio stations through the directories provided.
TNAUK eText and audio - Read TNAUK (Talking Newspaper Association of the UK) publications:
* eText - Browse, find, download automatically and then read TNAUK text-based newspapers, magazines and network guides;
* Audio - Browse, find and listen to streamed narrated audio newspapers, magazines and network guides.
(To use this service you must be a subscriber of TNAUK which is available for a modest annual fee.)
The Seeing Ear Library - Browse, find, download automatically and then read books from the Seeing Ear Library. (You must be a subscriber to the Seeing Ear Library to use this service which is available free of charge.)
Other Media - you can add here your own media which does not fall under the categories above.
Every media task as explained later in the manual has always a Player and Library control.
To start a media task, in the Manager's media list, navigate Up and Down and press Select [Enter] (5); the media task starts with the focus on the Player and the media you listened to in your previous session (if any) is automatically loaded. The task announces that it is ready.
Alternatively, you can start a media task with the focus on the Library by pressing * Select [Ctrl + Enter] (0 + 5). Later on when you store media in your favourites directories in the Library, you can start a task with the focus directly on your own media in the Library by pressing [Shift + Enter] (5 long).
