Introduction and background information:

What can I do with SpeakOn?

SpeakOn enables you to enjoy both mainstream media and services available to the VI (visually impaired) community.

 

Mainstream:

 

- Play CD audio music, MP3 and DAISY books.

 

- Play music stored on your computer and create your own playlists.

 

- Stream directly or download literally thousands of podcast files available through subject directories on the internet.

 

- Listen to audio, DAISY and books in text format stored on your computer.

 

- Listen to internet radio. You have the choice of over 100,000 stations and shows from the vast RadioTime database; you can browse, search and preset stations.

 

- Listen to your favourite music using the Last FM internet service and interact with the Last FM server to create a personal portfolio of the music you enjoy. (You must be a subscriber to Last.FM which is available for a modest monthly fee).

 

VI community services:

 

- Stream directly or download podcasts available for the VI community including ACB Main Menu, Blind Cool Tech, Infosound etc.

 

- Listen to VI community internet radio stations.

 

- Read TNAUK (Talking Newspaper Association of the UK) British publications:

 

* eText - Browse, find, download automatically and then read TNAUK text-based newspapers, magazines and network guides;

* Audio - Browse, find and listen to streamed narrated audio newspapers, magazines and network guides.

 

(To use this service you must be a subscriber to TNAUK which is available for a modest annual fee.)

 

- Browse, find, download automatically and then read books from the Seeing Ear Library. (You must be a subscriber to the Seeing Ear Library to use this service which is available in Europe free of charge)

 

You can customize many of the services above. For example, you can create and organize your music in directories of your choice. Also, you can add your favourite radio stations and organize the links to your favourite podcast resources. Similarly you can organize your magazines and books.
