The following describes all the help features in SpeakOn:
Using the Help menu
The Help menu presents a list of all available help features in SpeakOn.
Press the 'Help' [F1] (7) key to toggle the Help menu.
The Help Menu list contains the following seven items:
1. Main Keys sub-menu
2. Control Context Keys sub-menu for the current control
3. Where am I?
4. Tip for the current task
5. Tip for the current control
6. Turn Keys Help on
7. Online SpeakOn manual using Internet Explorer.
Select the feature you want in the usual way.
These Help menu items are explained below.
1. Main Keys sub-menu
The Main Keys sub-menu contains a list of all the Main keys on the standard keyboard or the numerical keypad together with their associated commands.
This feature is useful if you need to remind yourself of the Main keys you need to press to run a particular command. Scroll up and down the list until you find the key and command you want. Then press the 'Select' [Enter] (5) key to run the command and leave the menu. If you are browsing the menu and would like to leave the menu without running a command, press any menu key such as the 'Main' [Alt] (9) key.
2. Control Context Keys sub-menu
The Control Context Keys sub-menu contains a list of all the context keys for the current control on the standard keyboard or the numerical keypad together with their associated commands.
This feature is useful if you need to remind yourself of the context keys you need to press to run a particular command. Scroll up and down the list until you find the key and command you want. Then press the 'Select' key to run the command and leave the menu. If you are browsing the menu and would like to leave the menu without running a command, press any menu key such as the 'Main' key .
Note that the appropriate key is reported automatically, based on whether you use the standard keyboard or the numerical keypad.
3. Where am I?
This feature tells you where you are in the system.
You can access this feature either from the Help menu or directly by pressing the # 'Help' [Shift + F1] (7 long) key.
SpeakOn announces the names of the current task and control.
There are also two shorter versions of this feature which can be accessed from the Main Keys sub-menu or directly as follows:
* 'Help' [Ctrl + F1] (0 + 7) - SpeakOn announces the name of the current control.
*# 'Help' [Ctrl + Shift + F1] (3 long) - SpeakOn announces the name of the item in the current control if applicable.
4. Tip for the current task
This feature gives you help tips on using the current task.
A short help tip for using the current task is spoken.
5. Tip for the current control
This feature gives you help tips on using the current control.
A short help tip for using the current control is spoken.
6. Exploring the keys functionality using the Help Key mode
The Help Key mode allows you to explore the functionality of all the keys.
When you select this menu item this mode is turned 'On' from the Help menu.
When the Help Key mode is 'On' you can explore the functionality of all the keys. Simply press the various keys on the standard keyboard or the numerical keypad; the key's name and command functionality is announced.
To turn the Help Key mode 'Off', press the 'Help' [F1] (7) key.
7. Viewing this manual from within SpeakOn
This feature enables you to view this manual directly from SpeakOn.
You can access this feature only from the Help menu.
SpeakOn launches Internet Explorer automatically with the manual's front page (the index) ready for you to browse.
This manual is always revised for the latest version of SpeakOn. If your version of SpeakOn is not the latest one, you will be asked to update your version first (as the manual is not relevant to your current version of SpeakOn). After updating your version of SpeakOn to the latest one, a procedure which should take only a few minutes from the Main menu, you should be able to view this manual from the Help menu.
As Internet Explorer is used to view the manual, you will need your screen reader or magnifier running before you select this option from the Help menu. You can switch between SpeakOn and Internet Explorer in the usual Windows way [Alt + Tab].
